RIWD defined some global objectives among themselves : Support - Improve - Break down isolation of women with disabilities... These general goals should encourage initiatives enabling women with disabilities to have access to the same rights and hopes as able-bodied women. |
Support initiatives from women with physical disabilities, just as is already being done daily by our North-European and North-American neighbours, by acting as an interface between, on the one hand, authorities and institutions, and, on the other hand, all actions from individuals or associations aiming to help disabled women to have access to global information and health care, especially as regards sexuality, contraception or motherhood, everywhere and always with well-informed and specially-trained professionals.
Improve the image of women with physical disabilities in France by awareness campaigns, consciousness-raising actions and exchanges between French and foreign organisations and associations, so that embarrassment and condescension turn into mutual understanding and help. Indeed, not only are disabled women thirsty for a new femininity and a more natural approach to their disabilities, but they also have very much to offer from their experiences and battles, to able-bodied women and men. Inform families but also continue to make people alert against "cliches" and sterotyped attitudes to fight more effectively against discrimination.
Break down isolation and promote constructive encounters, by creating time and space for dialogue between women with disabilities :
(a) among themselves ; (b) and able-bodied people ; (c) professionals (psychotherapists, doctors, journalists, film directors, writers, sociologists, architects…) and of course, (d) French and foreign associations.
Our forums topics - either at the "Maison des Associations of Courbevoie" (located about 7 kms from central Paris) or on the Internet - intend to help hope and initiative to flourish so that disabled women drop their reserve and acquire the necessary dynamic for their own emancipation.
For full access of disabled women to human rights and dignity through the working of solutions.
RIWD is well-recognised and consulted at the national and international level, by institutions, the NGO, media and as well as women with disabilities !
In 10 years, RIWD has proven its capacity to build and set up major events such as forums and seminars which allow girls and women with disabilities and their relatives to meet not only therapists, gynaecologists but also partners, journalists, artists, and professionalss of esthetiscism like fashion designers and so on.
